Introducing Healing the Creative Soul - a Digital Garden
Hi friends,
It's been a few months since I've posted a writing update, and I have something exciting to share. As I mentioned before, this year I'm working on my book on recovering creativity and creating one's own path, based on the journey I've been on these last few years. I am about three chapters in, and I've been wanting to polish up one of the chapters to post on my blog.
Last month, in a roundabout way (as it usually is), I got inspired to share my book content via a "digital garden" medium. A digital garden is somewhat like a personal wiki, a databased made up of linked notes around a topic or whatever the person is interested in. It's a living document that evolved over time and is organized by topic rather than date. I've been using one privately for writing and knowledge management for two years now. This topic-based organization is how I initially wanted my blog to be, but what I’ve been writing up until last year needed to be chronological rather than topical.
The work of putting my book content into separate notes has helped me review it from a higher level and see where the gaps are. So the garden is a great writing tool, too. You'd think I could do that offline, but sharing the work makes me get more polished and organized than I do on my own. I had planned to share parts of the book through my blog anyway. This way, the sharing becomes part of the process of writing rather than a separate effort. But I will still share some of it through the blog whenever appropriate, or when I have something to say that’s more suited to the blog format.
The first big piece of writing I’m sharing on the new site is a guide to recognizing and following inspiration. This topic is near and dear to me because it was the first thing I learned when I began the journey to create my own path, and it took me years to fully grasp it and use it daily. It was the beginning of a new approach to living my life, to listening to my own voice. It’s one of the first things I wanted to share because living from inspiration makes all the hard work worth it. Please give it a read and let me know what you think!
p.s. Since these notes were broken up from long-form writing, they read sequentially, and I organized them as such. But future notes will start out less linear and not as fleshed out.
